[EVENT] The Formation of the Social Democratic Party of Georgia
2020.09.20 20:40 bowsniper[EVENT] The Formation of the Social Democratic Party of Georgia
November 25th, 2020. 19 Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue, Tbilisi, Georgia. Social Democrats for the Development of Georgia, Georgian Labour Party, Solidarity Alliance of Georgia Announce Formal Merger; Intend to Compete in Future Elections as New Social Democratic Party of Georgia. Following the re-election of Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and the reigning Georgian Dream party in the recent 2020 Parliamentary Elections, the Georgian political scene has, to the unobservant viewer, effectively preserved the status quo. The United National Movement has continued to come second fiddle to the dominant Georgian Dream (despite mostly recovering from their split with European Georgia), Georgian Dream itself has cemented it’s already extant dominance over Parliament, and the minor parties have continued to cling desperately to whatever seats they have, as has been tradition for decades. Truly, it would seem to most that, despite the early excitement of election season, not much has shifted in the mountain republic’s political world. They would be wrong. Under the surface, far from the downtown of Tbilisi, a relative rarity in Georgian politics has once again occurred: the total merger of political parties into a new entity. At a formal convention at the Social Democrats for the Development of Georgia’s headquarters in Tbilisi, the leadership of the SDDG, the Georgian Labour Party, and, perhaps most bizarrely, the Solidarity Alliance of Georgia, have collectively announced the official merger of their respective parties into a new political entity; the newly formed Social Democratic Party of Georgia. This comes after several days of heated closed-doors discussion between the parties’ respective leadership, discussion no doubt prompted by the three parties’ failure to achieve notable electoral success in the recent 2020 elections, with only the SDDG succeeding at winning any seats in Parliament— netting themselves a paltry two, the lowest total of any Parliamentary party. It has become rapidly apparent that the two party system which dominates Georgia is not conducive to the success of tiny minor parties; particularly those which compete with one another for the same limited ideological voter base as the three parties currently do. Thus, it is hoped by the major leadership of the party, as explicitly stated during the convention, that the merger of the groups will result in a higher total vote share for the united party, higher seat counts in elections to come, and, broadly, “increased influence of the Social Democratic ideal within Georgian society and politics”, as noted by former Georgian Labour Party leader and influential politician Shalva Natelashvili. This reasoning has brought the parties together in spite of ideological differences between the various groups, particularly between the two outwardly Social Democratic parties and the Solidarity Alliance, which instead emphasizes a jumbled variety of positions ranging from meritocracy to social justice to technological advancements. The tentative unification agreement, signed by the three parties leadership, has divided positions of power and influence within the party amongst existing political figures, with every party netting at least some role in the management of the newly established SDPG. SDDG leader Konstantine Baratashvili, current chairman of the party, will inherit the position of chairman in the SDPG, much to the chagrin of Georgian Labour Party chairman Shalva Natelashvili, a longtime Georgian politician who was no doubt angling for the role (but was instead relegated to Secretary-General, the second highest position in the party). Solidarity Alliance of Georgia leader Beka Natsvlishvili will enter into the role of Political Secretary, widely seen as the third in command and a prominent figure during campaigning seasons. Other major figures in the respective parties will be granted positions of accordance in the new SDPG where possible, in order to achieve an equitable partnership— at least in theory. Alongside the division of party leadership into their new roles, the unification agreement has also laid out the preliminary policies and ideology of the new SDPG, which, as the name might imply, largely revolves around the reversal of free market laissez-faire politics implemented by previous governments in favour of the establishment of a new Social Democratic government and welfare state for Georgia. Additionally, the SDPG, perhaps due to influence from the Solidarity Alliance of Georgia, has firmly stated it’s belief in NATO membership for Georgia; echoing the desires of the vast majority of the Georgian electorate and the existing political parties. The specific policies of the new party have been compiled in an open document available on their website, which describes them as thus: In recognition of the success of the social democratic model around the globe, and in particular with our European brethren, the Social Democratic Party of Georgia advocates for, in no particular order:
The preservation of Georgia’s extant universal healthcare system, and it’s expansion to cover pharmacare, deathcare, dental and eye care, and hospice care.
The nationalization of various elements of Georgia’s national infrastructure, such as railways, telecommunications, oil and natural gas, roadways, the postal service, and others, in order to provide universally accessible and easily affordable services to all Georgians.
The levying of taxes on the wealthiest percentage of Georgians, in order to reduce income inequality and fund social welfare systems.
The implementation of Social Democratic principles in the Georgian workplace, including the expansion of worker’s unions to include upwards of 75% of the Georgian population, the implementation of Workplace Democracy in Georgian workplaces, and the break up of exploitative/monopolistic businesses in order to preserve competition in the Georgian economy.
The reformation of the Georgian electoral system to a method of proportional representation, to do away with the current two-party domination of Georgian politics which has stifled Georgian democracy since independence.
The preservation of the Georgian environment, culture, religion and tradition, conducted through the establishment of green energy, the safe, well-regulated and clean extraction of raw materials, and providing increased funding to local businesses, institutions, etc.
The reinstitution of strict COVID-19 controls, in order to prevent a second wave of the infection from drastically affecting the Georgian population and the Georgian economy.
In recognition of the unique geopolitical position of the Georgian nation and people, and the current status of the illegally occupied regions of Georgia, it is the aim of the Social Democratic Party of Georgia that:
Georgia will, with the agreement of NATO and other European partners, accede to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization no later than 2027; with accession being coupled with the modification of NATO Article 5 to extend mutual defence clauses to all Georgian territory.
Georgia will seek to enter into a mutually beneficial trade relationship with European partners by integrating ourselves with the European economic machine, be it through EU membership, EFTA membership, or through bi-lateral trade agreements.
Georgia will expand it’s peacekeeping and counter-terrorism operations currently in effect in partnership with our American and other coalition allies, increasing Georgian commitment to the destruction of radicalism and the preservation and establishment of a safer world.
Georgia will be reunified with her illegally occupied territories currently under the administration of Russia and her illegal client states, be it through peaceful resolution or, if necessary, the application of force.
Georgia will seek, for the first time, the establishment of ever greater ties with our Caucasian neighbours, the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan; in recognition of our shared heritage of oppression by foreign powers and the need to reinforce Transcaucasian business, culture, sexudity and influence on a troubled global stage. In this task, Georgia will seek a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh, and the peaceful restoration of friendly relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan for the benefit of all.
The new party leadership hopes that the policies stated will attract Georgians to the newly founded SDPG, particularly the mentioned aspect of reforming Georgian politics away from the two-party back-and-forth between the UNM and Georgian Dream that has dominated Georgian politics in recent years. Indeed, it would seem that SDPG leadership seeks to be nothing less than kingmaker in the next election cycle, with a nationwide advertisement campaign worth ₾50 Million ($15.5 Million USD) slated to begin next month in an attempt to draw the Georgian electorate to the party. With a total party membership of upwards of 60,000 and growing (largely inherited from the previous parties, with some growth since), many (admittedly rather eccentric) Georgian political experts reckon that the SDGP may swiftly break out of minor party status and join the ranks of the medium parties, such as European Georgia and the Alliance of Patriots. Time will tell whether that prediction will prove accurate, but, at least for now, the Social Democrats of Georgia have high spirits, and hope.
2020.09.01 10:09 KonstantinDzhExport of "brains" from Russia. Why has Russia, one of the world's leading countries in terms of the number of inventions, been losing in the global innovation race for two hundred years?
When talking about different countries, concepts are used such as the volume and growth of GDP, the rating and the image of the country. At the same time, countries are rarely researched for their contribution to the development of scientific and technological progress of all humankind. A globally conventional image is of Russia as an authoritarian state. Russia lives off a huge raw material base, has a strong army, but a weak and non-competitive economy. This concept, unfortunately, has real grounds. Speaking about innovative companies over the past two hundred years, it is noteworthy that most of them are now located in the United States. But if one looks at this issue, not in terms of the country of registration of these companies, but in terms of the people who invented and created world-famous technological businesses, it turns out that those born and raised in the USSR and Russia are surely among the five nations that have contributed most of all to the creation of businesses that influenced human evolution. If one considers the technological inventions that have radically changed human life on the planet over the past two hundred years, then an approximate incomplete list will be probably as follows: “Electricity, radio, television, cars, airplanes, spaceships and satellites, computers, the Internet, mobile communication and social networks." Here it should be noted that in the understanding of most people, the concept of "innovation" is often confused with the concept of "invention". “Invention” means the creation of a new technical development or improvement of an old one. “Innovation” differs from “invention” in that it creates an added value and is associated with practical implementation. In this view, “innovation” is not innovation unless it is successfully implemented and starts to benefit the society. Let us consider some of the most famous examples of inventions and innovations. For example, today few people know that the Russian engineers Pavel Yablochkov and Alexander Lodygin practically simultaneously invented and even patented the first electric light bulb (an incandescent lamp) in 1876. Unfortunately, they failed to establish mass production in Russia. Later, Lodygin moved to the United States. In 1878, Thomas Edison, the entrepreneurially-inclined American, became interested in the invention and production of light bulbs. By reducing the cost of manufacturing light bulbs, he was able to industrialize the process. The “Edison bulb” began to be mass-produced, displacing other lamps on the market. By 1890, Lodygin was forced to sell his patent to General Electric. A. Lodygin The idea of inventing and creating the world's first radio receiver belongs to Alexander Popov, a Russian professor and experimenter. In 1895, at a meeting of the Russian Physico-Сhemical Society, Alexander Popov demonstrated "a device designed to indicate rapid fluctuations in atmospheric electricity", in other words, a radio receiver, and he performed the first radio communication session. Later, with the help of leading British manufacturers, Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian, managed to carry out radio communication over a distance of 3,500 kilometers. In 1897, Marconi registered a patent and established his own company, putting the invention on a commercial basis, not achieved by Popov. A. Popov's radio receiver Speaking about television, the first patent for electronic television technology was obtained by Boris Rosing, Professor at the St. Petersburg Institute of Technology, who applied for a patent for the "Method of electrical transmission of images" in 1907. He succeeded in transmitting an image at a distance in the form of a grid of four light bars on a dark background in 1911. It was the first television program in the world. A real breakthrough in the development of television was the iconoscope, invented in the United States in 1931 by Vladimir Zvorykin, a Russian emigrant and a student of Boris Rosing, who worked at that time at the Radio Corporation of America. V. Zvorykin As for Aircraft Construction, there are a large number of inventors in different countries who have made a significant contribution to the creation of a modern aircraft. There are also many Russian names among them, such as Alexander Mozhaisky, Alexander Kudashev, Igor Sikorsky, Nikolai Zhukovsky, Andrey Tupolev, Sergey Ilyushin, Pavel Sukhoi, Oleg Antonov and others. At the same time, back in 1904, the Russian scientist Nikolai Zhukovsky, who can be considered the "father of aerodynamics", formulated a theorem that quantifies the lift component of an aircraft wing which is the basis of the aircraft construction. Today, Igor Sikorsky is especially famous in the world as a Russian aircraft designer who moved to the United States after the October Revolution. He is the developer of the world's first four-engined aircraft "Russian Knight" (1913), a heavy four-engined bomber and the passenger aircraft "Ilya Muromets" (1914), as well as the serial famous helicopter (USA, 1942). I. Sikorsky The date of the beginning of space exploration is considered to be 1957, when the Soviet Union was the first to launch the spacecraft Sputnik-1 into space as part of its space program. On this day, the spherical satellite entered the orbit, transmitting back the signal of a successful launch and fixing the Russian word "Sputnik" forever in all languages of the world. Unfortunately, today, Russia accounts for less than 5% of the world telecommunication market, which actively uses space satellites. The first sputnik As for advanced information technologies, it is no secret that behind such well-known and globally popular companies as Google, Skype, WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Parallels, ABBYY, EPAM Systems, Luxoft and others are the founders who were born in the USSR. As of today, the headquarters most of these companies are located in the United States. Evident from the above facts, for two centuries, most inventors in Russia have not been able to arrange the commercial use of their inventions in their homeland. Russia has always been leading in the number and quality of the most important inventions for humankind, but it has clearly lost out to many developed countries in terms of their practical implementation in the economy. Why? In my opinion, the main reason has been and still is in the lack of the necessary socio-economic environment for the implementation of innovations. The most important components of such an environment are political stability in the country, a fair judicial system that protects intellectual property and investment, financial, administrative and moral support for the creative part of the intellectual society. Also, the presence of various and competing facilities for the market financing of scientific and technical developments, and, most importantly, the attitude to science as the main engine of economic development and, accordingly, a tool for making money are mandatory for innovation growth. Unfortunately, almost all of these major components of the socio-economic environment are still not developed in Russia at present, which will affect the further export of technological inventions. Loren Graham, Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology noted that: “Russia will not be able to get enough milk unless it creates ideal conditions for a cow. Any inventions will not be of great practical importance until the necessary environment is created for the implementation and commercialization of innovations". A long-term concentration on the raw material sectors of the Russian economy, combined with the strengthening of state capitalism held Russia back. The lack of judicial protection for inventors and businessmen, the lack of market financing for the development and implementation of innovations, as well as the pressure on a creative part of the population, year by year, push Russia away from the countries in which an innovative economy is growing, and which are ready to adopt and support with great pleasure, talented scientists, inventors and businessmen unrecognized in Russia. It is frustrating that Russia, which is one of the top 5 countries in the world in terms of the number of inventions that are most important for humankind, has been consistently, for two hundred years, losing out to its main competitors in the innovation race, and over the past 30 years, to many so-called "third world countries" which until recently have not got any fundamental science at all. In the total volume of export trade of civil science-intensive products on the world market, Russia's share is estimated at 0.3 %, while the share of the United States is 39%, Japan is 30%, Germany is 15%, and China is 6 %. These figures are very important because, according to most economists, including Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz, innovation is the only real source of the wealth-growth in the modern world as a whole. Given a relatively low level of taxation, a high level of general volume of education of the population, the number of talented Russian inventors, the unique base of fundamental science that is still preserved since the Soviet period, especially in such subjects as mathematics, physics, chemistry, IT, biotechnology, space and nuclear technologies, it is safe to assume that Russia could be capable of returning to the top five most innovative economies in the world. Russia could radically change its image, becoming an attractive country for domestic and foreign inventors and investors instead of continuing to export "brains" to other countries! Covid-19 may have changed the world, but major conditions of innovation growth remain valid. This situation opens new opportunities for entrepreneurial activities worldwide. In the nearest ten years we will see if Russia is able to return to the club of the most innovative countries or lag even further behind its competitors. Konstantin Dzhimbinov PhD. Ronald Reagan is the 73-year-old Republican candidate and the current President. His running mate is current Vice President George Bush.
Walter Mondale is the 56-year-old Democratic candidate and the previous Vice President. His running mate is US Representative from New York Geraldine Ferraro.
Issues and Background
Within a year of taking office, President Reagan signed comprehensive tax reform legislation that exemplified his economic philosophy. The top marginal income rate was cut from 70% to 50%, and the rate on the lowest taxable bracket was reduced from 14% to 11%. The capital gains tax was reduced from 28% of 20%. Legislation in 1982, prompted by increases in the deficit, prevented the full tax cut aspirations of the 1981 legislation from going into effect. Reagan and his supporters credit his economic policies with the strong economic recovery since the beginning of 1983.
The last couple years have seen very large federal budget deficits, with the 1983 peak at a level unseen since immediately following World War II, even relative to GDP. Mondale has chosen to make this arguably his biggest domestic campaign issue. Mondale has argued that the "question of the deficit and getting interest rates down is the most important domestic problem of our time - nothing else compares with it." He has spoken in stark terms about the alleged stakes, saying:
The President's point that growth will cure the deficit is obviously not the case. The deficit will get worse even with growth. Thus it is a very severe problem that threatens our future, saddles our kids with a with a trillion dollars worth of debt, is making us into a debtor nation, is destroying our position in international commerce, driving up interest rates, and is making the budget increasingly unmanageable.
Further, Mondale has gone further in his gambit on making the deficit an election issue by pledging to raise taxes. In his nomination acceptance speech, Mondale said:
Whoever is inaugurated in January, the American people will have to pay Mr. Reagan's bills. The budget will be squeezed. Taxes will go up. And anyone who says they won't is not telling the truth to the American people. I mean business. By the end of my first term, I will reduce the Reagan budget deficit by two-thirds. Let's tell the truth. That must be done - it must be done. Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He won't tell you. I just did.
Specifically, the Mondale deficit reduction plan calls for $85 billion in new tax revenues and $105 billion in cuts in projected spending. The entirety of the new tax revenue is to be earmarked for a special fund to reduce the deficit. Any further new spending will be "pay as you go," requiring new revenue to cover the spending. The planned spending cuts are mostly decreases in the planned growth of spending, including for the military and Medicare, rather than outright cuts.
According to Mondale campaign advisers, a typical family of four with a gross annual income of $25,000 (OOC: ~$62,000 in 2020 dollars, same format for further parentheticals) will not see their taxes go up. However, by 1989, families making $25,000 to $35,000 (~$62,000 to $86,000) will see a tax increase of about $95 (~$200) families making up to $45,000 (~$111,000) will pay roughly $200 (~$500) more and families making $100,000 (~$250,000) will pay about $2,600 (~$6,400) more.
Republicans have of course criticized the Mondale plan sharply. Vice President Bush called it a "program for failure" that would stall the recovery. Reagan insists that deficit reduction must come through economic growth and reductions in wasteful government spending. Reagan describes a tax increase as a "last resort."
Religion and issues of morality have come up several times during this campaign. President Reagan favors a Constitutional amendment that would permit organized prayers in public schools that students can opt-out of. Mondale opposes the amendment. President Reagan also supports a Constitutional amendment banning abortions except when the life of the mother is at risk. Mondale is personally opposed to abortion but believes it should be a woman's individual choice. Mondale's running mate Geraldine Ferraro has received pushback for her statement that, "the President goes around calling himself a good Christian; I don't for a minute believe it," criticizing Reagan's policies as "unfair" and "discriminatory."
In fall 1983, following an internal power struggle in the country and pleas from other Caribbean nations, the United States invaded Grenada alongside several Caribbean nations. The invasion was successful, resulting in the establishment of a new interim government. Elections are intended to take place in the coming months. The Reagan Administration justified the intervention on the basis of protecting US medical students on the island. The UN General Assembly voted 108 to 9 to call the intervention a "flagrant violation of international law." Mondale raised questions about the invasion early on, but in the past couple months has spoken favorably of it.
The United States along with three European nations introduced a peacekeeping force into Lebanon in 1982, in the broader context of the Lebanese Civil War. US diplomatic and military forces have been the victim of a number of suicide bombings, in particular the 1983 bombings of Beirut barracks, killing 241 US military personnel. Mondale has been sharply critical of Reagan with respect to these bombings, arguing that there was plenty of warning to prevent them. Mondale has further argued that overall US policy in Lebanon has been marked by "unbelievable disorganization." In January, Mondale called for the withdrawal of US marines from Lebanon. Reagan argues that the US presence in Lebanon helped facilitate the withdrawal of Palestinian guerrilla fighters.
At no point in his first term thus far has President Reagan met with his Soviet counterpart, Konstantin Chernenko. Mondale has frequently criticized Reagan for this, and has promised he would hold annual summit meetings with Soviet leaders. Reagan has said that he would like a summit, but needs to feel sure it will produce results before it happens. More broadly, Reagan has described the necessary policy towards the Soviet Union as one of "credible deterrence and peaceful competition," though he has also not held back in his criticism of the Soviet Union, calling it just last year an "evil empire."
In 1979, the Sandinista National Liberation Front in Nicaragua overthrew the Somoza dictatorship and established a new government. Since then, counterrevolutionary forces including former pro-Somoza forces as well as disillusioned former Sandinistas, have engaged in armed conflict against the Sandinista government. Reagan cancelled economic aid to Nicaragua upon taking office, but has since said that there have been attempts to get along with the new government. However, Reagan has been sharply critical of Nicaragua's accused military buildup and "meddling" in El Salvador.
Mondale has criticized Reagan's "failed policies" in Central America and has promised that if elected, he would end all US military exercises in Central America, withdraw combat forces from Honduras, and "end the covert activities directed toward Nicaragua."
A CIA booklet became public this October which has raised questions about the nature of US covert activities in Nicaragua. As reported by the New York Times:
A Central Intelligence Agency document that became public this week tells Nicaraguan rebels how to win popular support and gives advice on political assassination, blackmail and mob violence. The 44-page booklet, titled ''Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare,'' is a primer on insurgency. Most activity of this sort in Nicaragua has been paid for by the United States through the C.I.A. The primer explains how to kidnap and kill officials, blow up public buildings and blackmail ordinary citizens.
Ferraro and her husband have come under intense media scrutiny over their financial history, with accusations ranging from tax avoidance to connections to organized crime, pornography, and gambling. In response, the couple has relented in releasing several years of tax returns, and Ferraro has allowed the media hours of her time to ask questions related to her and her husband's finances. Most accusations against them have proven to be exaggerated, though there are still lingering questions regarding certain accounting errors that were made. For more technical details, see coverage by the New York Times or Washington Post.
Particularly following what some considered to be a sub-par first debate performance, some Democrats are openly raising the question of whether Reagan, 73, is too old to continue serving as President. Asked at a White House event whether age should be considered a legitimate issue, Reagan said jokingly of Mondale, "I'll challenge him to an arm-wrestle any time." Reagan's more vigorous second debate performance has led to a diminishing of the age discussion.
In June 1981, the Associated Press and Los Angeles Times reported on a rare lung infection in 5 young previously healthy gay men in Los Angeles. Since then, over 6,000 cases of "acquired immune deficiency syndrome" (AIDS) have been reported to public health officials. In April of this year, the cause of the disease was discovered, a retrovirus known as HTLV-III. According to the CDC, "most cases have been reported among homosexual men with multiple sexual partners, abusers of intravenous drugs, and Haitians, especially those who have entered the country within the past few years." The case fatality rate is extremely high. Scientists say the virus is mainly spread through sexual contact. There were two major developments just recently in October. First, the New York Times reported that saliva may be a possible source of transmission, though it remains unlikely that it is a "key mode of spread." Second, under pressure from Mayor Dianne Feinstein, San Francisco public health officials ordered a number of bathhouses and sex clubs geared towards homosexual men closed. Officials at the Department of Health and Human Services argue that this disease has become a top research priority for them, and that they expect to spend many millions of dollars on research grants and other efforts. However, some groups like the National Gay Task Force have criticized the government sharply and say that not nearly enough is being done. Many criticisms of the government and other institutions and groups of people are covered in the essay from last year famous in the gay community, "1,112 and Counting" by Larry Kramer, published in the New York Native. Neither Reagan nor Mondale have spoken of this disease on the campaign trail. OOC Note: There is no indication that AIDS was an issue in the presidential election. Even gay newspapers from this time did not relate the crisis much if at all to the presidential election. To the extent that government policy was discussed, it was often local policy. Why mention it then? Well, it's a similar situation to Japanese internment and the 1944 election. I know some of you will bring this up no matter what, understandably, and so I'd like to at the very least calibrate the discussion to the year of the election with proper context and background.
Platforms (Important note if this is influencing your vote: These are just excerpts, not everything is included and inclusion of a point in one set of excerpts does NOT mean the other party took the opposing stance or didn't mention it; also, especially in the modern era, a Presidential candidate may disagree with the party platform) Read the full 1984 Republican platform here. 10 Excerpts:
"We reaffirm our conviction that State and local governments closest to the people are the best and most efficient"
"The Republican Party pledges to continue our efforts to lower tax rates, change and modernize the tax system, and eliminate the incentive-destroying effects of graduated tax rates ... We therefore support tax reform that will lead to a fair and simple tax system and believe a modified flat tax—with specific exemptions for such items as mortgage interest—is a most promising approach"
"The President is denied proper control over the federal budget ... To remedy this, we support enhanced authority to prevent wasteful spending, including a line-item veto"
"We need coordination between fiscal and monetary policy, timely information about Fed decisions, and an end to the uncertainties people face in obtaining money and credit ... The Gold Standard may be a useful mechanism for realizing the Federal Reserve's determination to adopt monetary policies needed to sustain price stability"
"The greatest danger today to our international trade is a growing protectionist sentiment"
"The Republican Party has deep concern about gratuitous sex and violence in the entertainment media, both of which contribute to the problem of crime against children and women"
"We Republicans emphasize that there is a profound moral difference between the actions and ideals of Marxist-Leninist regimes and those of democratic governments, and we reject the notions of guilt and apology which animate so much of the foreign policy of the Democratic Party"
"Stable and peaceful relations with the Soviet Union are possible and desirable, but they depend upon the credibility of American strength and determination"
"We ... reaffirm our support for a human life amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children"
"We affirm our country's absolute fight to control its borders ... Those desiring to enter must comply with our immigration laws ... Failure to do so not only is an offense to the American people but is fundamentally unjust to those in foreign lands patiently waiting for legal entry ... We will preserve the principle of family reunification"
"Instead of runaway deficits, a Democratic Administration will pursue overall economic policies that sharply reduce deficits, down interest rates, free savings for private investment, prevent another explosion of inflation and put the dollar on a competitive footing"
"We will pursue international negotiations to open markets and eliminate trade restrictions, recognizing that the growth and stability of the Third World depends on its ability to sell its products in international markets"
"The Environmental Protection Agency should receive a budget that exceeds in real dollars the agency's purchasing power when President Reagan took office, since the agency's workload has almost doubled in recent years"
"After four years in which the roll of dishonor in the Administration has grown weekly and monthly—from Richard Allen to Rita Lavelle, from Thomas Reed to James Watt—it is time for an end to the embarrassment of Republican cronyism and malfeasance"
"Violent acts of bigotry, hatred and extremism aimed at women, racial, ethnic and religious minorities, and gay men and lesbians have become an alarmingly common phenomenon ... A Democratic Administration will work vigorously to address, document, and end all such violence"
"In the year made famous by George Orwell, we can see the realization of many of his grimmest prophecies in the totalitarian Soviet state, which has amassed an arsenal of weapons far beyond its defensive needs"
"Sadly, Mr. Reagan has opted for the all too frequent American response to the unrest that has characterized Central America-military assistance ... Over the past 100 years, Panama. Nicaragua, and Honduras have all been occupied by U.S. forces in an effort to suppress indigenous revolutionary movements"
"A Democratic President will pursue a foreign policy that advances basic civil and political rights—freedom of speech, association, thought and religion, the right to leave, freedom of the integrity of the person, and the prohibition of torture, arbitrary detention and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment—and that seeks as well to attain basic, economic, social, and cultural rights"
"We support tough restraints on the manufacture, transportation, and sale of snub-nosed handguns, which have no legitimate sporting use and are used in a high proportion of violent crimes"

2020.08.30 02:58 throwaway173-Less common Russian names for boys?
Hey namenerds, love the sub! I’m not expecting, I’m just curious and asking hypothetically - my partner’s entire family is Russian (she immigrated with her family as a toddler), so if we were to have children I’m sure she would want to acknowledge her background when naming them. Her extended family is mostly women and I like a lot of their first names, as well as Russian girls’ names in general. My issue is with the boys names; I can only think of the pretty common ones, of which every Russian family seems to have a few, here’s the whole list I could come up with. Russians are also big on nicknaming, which I like (I’m from a Greek background where most names also come with a standard short form, there’s a lot of name crossover as well), so I’ve put them in brackets. Ivan (Vanya) Viktor (Vitya) Dmitri (Dima) Mikhail (Misha) Sergei (Syerozha) Alexandr (Sasha) Alexey (Lyosha) Maxim (Max) Artem (Tyoma) Evgheny (Zhenya) Nikolai (Kolya) Andrey (Andrusha) Nikita Danyl (Danya) Konstantin (Kostya) Vladimir (Vova/Volodya) Anatoly (Tolya) Vasily/Valery (Vasya) Yuriy (Yura) Leonid (Leo/Lyonya) I’m not very fond of any of these names, besides Valery and Konstantin, and some of the nicknames (Vova, Leo) but I don’t love any of them. All of the men in my girlfriend’s family, as well as all the Russians in history and pop culture that spring to mind, have names off this list. Does anyone know of some more modern/less common ethnically Russian names for boys? Bonus points if they’re Jewish as well. Thanks!

Here’s 0.14 ‘The Duke and the Hertzog’, less than a month after our last release! This has to be one of the fastest, if not the fastest, development turnarounds we’ve had in the past three years. So as always, big thanks to the team and their hard work! We can’t guarantee such a rapid release schedule in the future, we are after all a group of volunteers working in our spare time, but we’d like to think this represents just how much our standards and practices have improved as a team. Various localization and translation fixes
Renamed Scutari to Albania
Did some more work on the British annexations including new alternative leaders
Wales has a new (and correct) flag
The Dutch diplomatic focus tree has been converted into decisions
Redid the dates for some Danish events
Reworked the Brazilian annexation events so, upon deciding to not release Brazil as a whole, it switches to the events for the individual regions instead of trying to release all the splinter states at once. Thus decisions can be made for each region as to whether or not it should be occupied, released as a puppet, or its land given to some other Brazilian splinter state.
The Russian war decisions now fire a warning event to the target and the target’s allies at the onset of the decision, telling players that Russia intends to go to war “within a few weeks”
The Bulgarian war decisions are now on a delay, like most others in the mod
Russia can now invite Serbia and Romania into its faction during a war, so long as they both have the same enemies
The decisions to unite Italy for ITA and SRI are no longer barred to puppets
Added an event for Vladimir Vazov to possibly return to active duty in Bulgaria at the outset of the Balkan War
Serbia can now form the Belgrade Pact before its political tree is started if Romania or Greece attack first
Several tags now use coalition mechanics - they will gain 50% of the partners’ popularities as daily political power (added to the base ruling party’s gain)
The Russian Socialist Republic will now attempt to protect a socialist Estonia or Latvia and bring them into the Internationale
All cases of early (pre-1939) Second Weltkrieg starts have been disabled, and a game rule to re-enable them has been added
Romania and Russia can now peace out from a war over Bessarabia
Expanded the Hotung event chain for the Legation Cities
If you are able to successfully cut off Vermillion Society funding to a Chinese faction they get a temporary debuff
Most focuses/decisions for Chinese tags which added resources have now been turned into decisions potentially accessible by all Chinese tags
Portugal-in-exile will now collapse after about a week if refused by the Entente, or if the Entente itself collapses
A neutral Batavian Commune can no longer join the TI unless attacked
Japan can now call its puppets to its wars
Added a new "Crownland" autonomy state for the Austrian puppets
Added focus tree filters to Serbia's focus tree
Switched SET and IAR around in Romanian content
GEAUS can now take control of Romanian oil fields if they puppet them
Player Bulgaria can now cede Dobrogea peacefully if they want to
Burma’s starting politics/leadership has been changed to reflect its future rework
A new game rule has been added for regulating when WK2 can begin. By default, it’s the current setting where WK2 can’t happen before 1939 (or, rather, it shouldn’t - though there are some places which have been missed). The game rule adds a setting for a pre-1939 WK2 beginning to either be rare or unrestricted (meaning it simply depends on the regular chances of the events involved). We’re doing a sweep through events to catch all those places which were missed previously, but it’s an effort which will take a while, so it’s unlikely to work perfectly yet.
Fixes Notable Fixes
The bug that prevented the peace conference AI from working properly in 0.13.2 has been fixed
The previous workaround which made countries incorrectly get drawn into a peace conference whenever a country whose faction leader was not in the war now actually works for puppets as well (so, for instance, a puppet Vietnam falling to Indochina won’t cause all of German East Asia to suddenly be annexed).

Austria can no longer lock itself out of its focus tree by betraying its secret deal with Hungary
Romania no longer loses its HoG in the legionary path
Iceland’s party names now match
Fixed Northern Epirus not being grantable to Albania by Serbia
Fixed some oddities with the Flanders/Wallonia/Belgium annexation events
Bulgaria can now use its reconciliation decisions even when a puppet - though, if it’s a puppet, the decision can only be used on its overlord
The Turkestan emir is now removed as a field marshal when he dies
Old ministers in Flanders, Bolivia, and Central America are now properly removed when the government changes
Returning cores/claims to an ally will now give them all coastal and contiguous states at once, instead of needing to have the decision used repeatedly to catch interior states
The events used when the UK and France demand the return of colonial states now fires for the owner of those states and not just the controller
Updated the AI for Italy’s decision to attack Austria to be a bit more judicious, and to wait for Serbia - when applicable
Prevented the Yen Bai Mutiny events from refiring
If a puppet somehow ends up at war with its overlord, it’ll now be set free

The regular peace event for Italy and Austria will no longer fire if Italy is involved in the Belgrade Pact war on Austria and thus eligible for the Budapest Treaty peace event
The decisions for Canada to declare war on the CSA or intervene in the ACW should no longer disappear forever if interrupted by the CSA’s strike idea
Countries that unify China via the generic decision can now integrate their allies

Among the probe's newest revelations is that Konstantin V. Kilimnik, an associate of Manafort's, was a "Russian intelligence officer." Manafort's contacts also posed a “grave counterintelligence threat,” according to the report. "Manafort hired and worked increasingly closely with a Russian national, Konstantin Kilimnik. Kilimnik is a Russian intelligence officer," reads the report. The Senate committee said it also obtained information that suggested Kilimnik was possibly connected to the Russian intelligence service's 2016 hack and leak operation.
Yet Mueller’s only references that Kilmnik has Kremlin “ties” came in two court filings in 2017 and 2018, and it’s not clear what Mueller meant in either case. In April 2018, Manafort’s attorneys told a Virginia judge that they have made “multiple discovery requests” seeking any contacts between Manafort and “Russian intelligence officials,” but that the special counsel informed them that “there are no materials responsive to [those] requests.”
According to a lengthy profile in The Atlantic, “insinuations” that Kilimnik has worked for Russian intelligence during his years in Ukraine “were never backed by more than a smattering of circumstantial evidence.” All of this has been lost on US media outlets, who routinely portray Kilimnik as a “Russian operative” or an “alleged Russian spy.”
But internal documents and court testimony underscore that Manafort tried to push his client, then–Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, to enter the European Union and turn away from Russia. As Manafort’s former partner and current special-counsel witness Rick Gates testified in August, Manafort crafted “the strategy for helping Ukraine enter the European Union,” in the lead-up to the 2013-2014 Euromaidan crisis.
The United States has a longstanding policy of supporting Neo-Nazi militias, doing this covertly during the height of EuroMaidan. According to journalist Stephen Cohen writing in The Nation: [T]he snipers who killed scores of protestors and policemen on Kiev’s Maidan Square in February 2014, thereby triggering a “democratic revolution” that overthrew the elected president, Viktor Yanukovych, and brought to power a virulent anti-Russian, pro-American regime — it was neither democratic nor a revolution, but a violent coup unfolding in the streets with high-level support — were sent not by Yanukovych, as is still widely reported, but instead almost certainly by the Neofascist organization Right Sector and its co-conspirators.” The United States government hasn’t sent just money and weapons to the Ukranian frontline. Washington has sent troops to carry out war games very near the Russian border and Russia’s Naval Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. This was timed specifically before Russia’s own war games.
We're not off to a good start, already. Next up from The Hill article:
The committee's findings are a more in-depth look at the interference than Mueller's investigation, but the findings run parallel to the conclusions of Mueller's probe, which found overwhelming evidence of Russia's efforts to interfere in the election through disinformation and cyber campaigns but a lack of sufficient evidence that the Trump campaign conspired with the Kremlin to impact the outcome of the 2016 election.
At some point Prigozhin, or whoever by then owned the internet marketing company, decided to expand into the lucrative English speaking market. This would require to build many English language online persona and to give those some history and time to gain crowds of followers and a credible reputation. The company sent a few of its staff to the U.S. to gain some impressions, pictures and experience of the surroundings. They would later use these to impersonate as U.S. locals. It was a medium size, long-term investment of maybe a hundred-thousand bucks over two or three years. The U.S. election provided an excellent environment to build reputable online persona with large followings of people with discriminable mindsets. The political affinity was not important. The personalities only had to be very engaged and stick to their issue - be it left or right or whatever. The sole point was to gain as many followers as possible who could be segmented along social-political lines and marketed to the companies customers. Again - there is nothing new to this. It is something hundreds, if not thousands of companies are doing as their daily business. The Russian company hoped to enter the business with a cost advantage. Even its mid-ranking managers were paid as little as $1,200 per month. The students and other temporary workers who would 'work' the virtual personas as puppeteers would earn even less. Any U.S. company in a similar business would have higher costs. In parallel to building virtual online persona the company also built some click-bait websites and groups and promoted these through mini Facebook advertisements. These were the "Russian influence ads" on Facebook the U.S. media were so enraged about. They included the promotion of a Facebook page about cute puppies.
As expected, Trump has granted Netanyahu everything that he and Israel ever wanted. The American vision for Middle East ‘peace’ does not demand the uprooting of a single illegal Jewish settlement and recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s ‘undivided’ capital. It speaks of a conditioned and disfigured Palestinian state that can only be achieved based on vague expectations; it wholly rejects the Right of Return for Palestinian refugees, and fails to mention the word ‘occupation’ even once. Obviously, only Israel benefits from the US plan; the Zionist discourse, predicated on maximum territorial gains with minimal Palestinian presence, has finally prevailed. Every Israeli request has been met, to the last one. Meanwhile, Palestinians received nothing, aside from the promise of chasing another mirage of a Palestinian state that has no territorial continuity and no true sovereignty.
Lastly, my dear /conspiracy friends, I'd recommend you read this entertaining article explaining how Russiagate unfolded. It is written by Steven P. Schrage, a student of Stefan Halper, who had a front-row seat from the very beginning. P.S. Since I already see the same pattern of comments occurring from when Russiagate first had its debut in this sub, let me guess a few of the top-rated comments.
A conspiracy unfolding before our very eyes and this sub sleeps!
This sub is literally TD 2.0!
Looks like Russian ShillsTM are hard at work burying this!

2020.07.10 13:49 wad11656Can someone explain to me the subplot of changing the hotel reception date (Season 2)?
I’ll copy the plot summary from Wikipedia and ask my questions in between the excerpts: “Bente Norum has opened a hotel with a Russian business partner named Zoya. As with the restaurant, this venue is popular among Russians and becomes a profitable venture. When a powerful Russian oligarch, Konstantin Minnikov, stays at the hotel, Norum is approached by a resistance agent who asks she copy the contents of Minnikov's phone and send it to them...” Does the resistance just want general intel for the sake of it from this high leader, or do they suspect him of specific nefarious wrong-doings? “...She initially declines, but after discovering that Minnikov has secretly bought out Zoya's share of the hotel, she does so...” Why is this the deciding factor for Norum to act on behalf of the resistance? What’s so bad/suspicious about Minnikov buying Zora’s share? Is Norum just bitter Minnikov inserted himself into the business’ successes and basically kicked Norum’s partner out of the picture? “...Minnikov's daughter Nadja replaces Zoya as Norum's business partner, and befriends Norum's daughter Maja. Meanwhile, Nikolai has moved in with Norum and Maja. Minnikov discovers that Norum has been spying on him. When he confronts her, she accidentally kills him by pushing him out a window. Panicked, she calls Nikolai, who disposes of the body. The resistance find out about this and blackmail Norum, demanding she reschedule a hotel event which Sidorova and other powerful Russians will attend...” What? Why reschedule? Was the resistance planning on assassinating Sidorova at this event? Why does that require rescheduling it? Did the resistance’s execution squad have the day off on the original event date, so needed to reschedule it for a different day? (That was kind a joke but I really don’t understand the point of rescheduling the event) ”...After learning that Zoya has been blamed for the murder, Norum tries to turn herself in to the police...” She was seriously willing to get charged for murder and likely get assassinated by the Russians, leaving her daughter an orphan, just because she felt bad about this Russian business partner she’s semi-friends with (Zoya) got wrongfully blamed for the murder? On that note, when does Zoya get punished for this murder she allegedly committed and was supposedly officially accused and charged for? At the point where I’m at in the show, she’s seen just chatting with Norum about the hotel’s business going south, while I would expect her to be in prison awaiting a trial. “...only to realise that the resistance agent works there and will not allow her to confess. She meets Djupvik and gives him information on the activities of the rebels. He informs Sidorova of the resistance's plans, which they assume to be an assassination plot against her. Nikolai overhears, and leaves Norum after realising she has been helping the resistance...” What? Why did this make Nicolai leave her? She essentially acted as a Russian spy by divulging the resistance’s plans to Djupvik (who in turn told Sidorova). Shouldn’t Norum’s actions against the resistance make Nicolai happy (despite her obvious prior compliance with the resistance)? Also, why the heck didn’t Norum mention they threatened to KILL Nicolai if Norum didn’t comply with changing the event date? By agreeing to change the event date as demanded by the resistance, didn’t Norum theoretically save Nicolai’s life? Why didn’t she point that out when he announced his departure? Almost anybody would have been grateful, right? I suppose the answer is that, Despite the fact Norum protected Nicolai by changing the date, her prior compliance with the resistance is still too unforgivable in Nicolai’s eyes? “...She sells her share of the hotel to Nadja and seeks to emigrate to Russia with Maja.”

On June 22, 2020, the Ukrainian press organization held a press conference with the participation of most domestic and foreign press groups. 2020.06.22 07:49 Mrs_DamonI've never written a fanfic before and since this hiatus is killer, I wanted to write a little something Killing Eve-related to keep my sanity intact. Hope you all like it! It's set immediately following the Season 3 finale on the Bridge -- "It's okay, baby."
Apologies for the length... During university, I minored in overly descriptive passages. //
"She relishes in Eve’s enthusiasm to pull her in closer and closer despite there being absolutely no room for the Holy Spirit anywhere near them."
// Both women stare yearningly at each other as they stand on opposite sides of the Bridge. Although there remains a significant distance between them, an unexplainable force – a pull – draws them in regardless how far they may step away. The desire they feel for one another has only been amplified throughout each one of their few past interactions, this magnetic force reserved for Eve and Villanelle seems to grow stronger the more they try to flee. Despite their attempts to ignore it, they have both felt this unspoken pull of resistance in the core of their beings on a persistent basis. Villanelle instinctively places her palm onto the spot of her stomach where Eve stabbed her (rudely) a lifetime ago. A small smile forms on Eve’s face as she recalls Villanelle’s horror when she pulled the knife out. All that wasted time. Their hearts pound in sync as Eve decides to take the first step toward Villanelle with V quickly following suit. Eve realizes at that moment she has never stopped thinking about where Villanelle has been or what she had for breakfast that morning or the countless other thoughts she has for the reformed assassin during her waking moments which ultimately follow through to her dreams. While she may have had what is traditionally known to be a perfect life consisting of a loving husband, a happy home and a robust chicken, there was one crucial factor that seemed to have been neglected in every Happy Life Magazine – the missing link to her ultimate happiness was Villanelle. Eve knew her Monster was brewing underneath the surface long before she met the charismatic fashionista with a beautiful face. It was only when confronted with the thought of losing the Yin to her Yang where she decided that wherever fate takes her, so long as Villanelle is by her side, she can conquer whatever darkness her Monster concocts. As Eve hurriedly makes her way to Villanelle by taking shorter yet rapid steps, the latter hesitantly takes slower strides. From the moment she saw her in that fluorescently dingy bathroom, Villanelle knew she wanted Eve. She wanted her body and her mind. She wanted to dance with her and watch movies together… Most importantly: she needed her acceptance and desperately needed her love. But not the kind of love Villanelle has always known. Not the love she’s typically associated with the term for her entire existence. Taking her to nice places, making promises, calling her “mine” – That is what Villanelle believed love to be but Eve didn’t. True love is willing to sacrifice. True love is acceptance for who someone is but not ignoring their inherent flaws. It’s bettering each other. Villanelle has been routinely rejected by every person she has previously associated with what love is. She wanted to be accepted by Konstantin but he showed otherwise. She wanted to know what the unconditional love of family is only to have it promptly thrown back in her face by her own mother. Although she sees what is the love of her life scurrying toward her, Villanelle remains cautious because that is what she has always needed to be when faced with the prospect of growing emotionally attached to someone... That is, until both women find themselves standing face to face; Eve taking in short breaths as she tries to recover from her sprint while Villanelle takes a longer breath in and out. Eve notices the tears beginning to form in Villanelle’s weary brownish green eyes. Villanelle spots a perfect single tear cascading down Eve’s cheek and felt an overwhelming need to kiss it away. It is taking every possible morsel of Villanelle’s self-control to not wrap herself around Eve’s waist and melt into her. Eve’s words when they previously laid in bed together of “I’ve never done anything like this before” rings in her mind. The absolute last thing Villanelle wants is to make Eve feel forced to do anything she is not ready for despite V seeing the pure, unadulterated desire in Eve’s wide eyes. While she’s all too familiar with that look, Villanelle wants their first real kiss to be instigated by Eve. Not unlike the kiss on the Bus that took her completely by surprise. Eve took that opportunity during their lustful haze of anger because she knew Villanelle wouldn’t. They’ve both thought about that kiss every moment since it happened and when the moment has finally arrived for a second act, they are at a complete standstill. This overwhelming urge of desperation finally washes over Eve as she grabs the back of Villanelle’s neck and hungrily plants the kiss she has been rehearsing over and over in her mind after she was initially asked to wear her hair down. Throughout her entire life, Eve has attempted to ignore the nagging voice that plagued the back of her mind; the one that consistently arose whenever she was with a prospective partner. The one that reassures her she’s feeling dissatisfied. She may have felt happy with Niko but this is different. The voice disappears whenever she’s around her and returns when she’s gone. The turtlenecked beauty has grown accustomed to feeling the tiny prickly hair of a mustache during her marriage with Niko so to experience the wiles of a clean-shaven woman wearing whatever high-end lip gloss Villanelle picked up at a luxury duty-free establishment only heightens Eve’s craving to savour every bit of it. When Eve pulled her in, Villanelle happily reciprocated with her own demonstration of total and complete desire. She realizes at this moment that Eve is just as eager to connect with her as she is. She feels the acceptance she strived to find for years. She relishes in Eve’s enthusiasm to pull her in closer and closer despite there being absolutely no room for the Holy Spirit anywhere near them. As they eventually unlock to briefly get some air, a shy smile begins to form on Villanelle’s face when she notices Eve’s eyes remain closed. She theorized it must have been a pretty great kiss if Eve didn’t want to immediately look at her following it. And, to be fair, it really was a pretty spectacular kiss. "Oksana..." Eve slowly begins to open her eyes as she breathlessly continues, "just so you know… they were two pieces." Villanelle raises her perfectly arched eyebrow, giving an incredulous look. "The... sweater and shirt. They weren't attached to each other. They're two separate pieces and it’s… actually one of my favourite combos in my entire wardrobe. You know I… think you’d do well to take some fashion pointers from me." Eve slyly bites her lip and gives a wicked smile as her eyes fixate on Villanelle's full lips. As if she’s daring her to comeback with a witty retort she knows she’s accustomed to giving. Villanelle pauses for a moment until she lets out a raucous hearty chuckle which Eve warmly reciprocates. Both women cannot contain their genuine excitement with simply being together as numerous pedestrians swiftly walk past them. An Old Man wearing his fanciest worn out beret walking home after losing astronomically at the horse races grumbles “other people are walking here, you know.” A sudden jolt of hysteria hits Eve when she hears the Old Man’s comment causing her to hold her stomach as she leans forward and gives such a sincere belly laugh, it startles her for a second. She had never experienced such a rush of brutal happiness until that moment on the Bridge with Villanelle. Villanelle could not contain her shocked look immediately following Eve’s abrupt chortle released out into the world. Seeing how much elation is currently washed over her combined with the notion that Eve, bless her heart, potentially believes she could assist Villanelle in her daily attire is what causes V to conversely lose hysteric control. Both Eve and Villanelle are now standing in the middle of a Bridge walkway in their own Villaneve bubble ignoring whatever outside forces may be concerned at these two women hysterically laughing at each other. A solid ten minutes pass until both women finally compose themselves. A smitten Villanelle gently brushes a strand of loose hair behind Eve's right ear. She rests her hand on Eve's flushed cheek and smiles. "It's okay, baby… We can always work on that."

Bored, of course, and waiting for an appropriate time to start dinner, I've re-watched S2E4 and noticed that when Carolyn gets called into her bosses office, and they talk about Paul - her boss at the end of their conversation asks what she should tell Paul with Carolyns response being aimed at the news of his partner leaving him: "Theres plenty more fish in the sea" Does this link connect the reasoning behind Paul's (potential) instruction to Konstantin to "Go Fishing" the night before Kenny's death? And therefore further explain Carolyn's guilt in S3:E8 when she says that she is to blame for Kenny's murder?

https://electro theatre .com/repertoire/spectacle/81 (close 2 gaps) Available on Vimeo now until 30 May 2.30pm (EST) / 6.30pm (CET); in Russian with English subtitles; running time 1h 35 min; filmed in 2015 (They've previously aired it once without English subtitles, probably an error.) Description from The Theatre Times:
Based on texts by Paul Valery, Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, and Ludwig Wittgenstein this legendary work by Heiner Goebbels offers a feast for the eyes and ears. Music theatre pyrotechnics offer a new mode of embodying philosophical discourse in a staging that that is both sensuous and spontaneous. Here one of Europe’s most adventurous theatre-makers offers an opportunity to experience the magic that scientist Max Black is capable of realising in his onstage laboratory where anything and everything is possible. The Stanislavsky Electrotheatre is located in the heart of Moscow, on Tverskaya Street 23, and was founded almost a century ago in 1915 as the cinema palace — the Ars electrotheatre. After the revolution it became home to Konstantin Stanislavsky’s opera and drama studio, and not long after that, the Stanislavsky Drama Theatre. The symbolic legacy of these three locations, a cinema, an opera studio and a dramatic theatre, has been fully endorsed by the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre as it launches a new era. (https://thetheatre times .com/max-black/)
Description from the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre:
In this performance the actor, the sound, the lighting and pyrotechnic effects work as partners and co-authors of what happens on stage. Fire flashes and fragments from notebooks of great thinkers illustrate the inner life of a scientist, his manner of irradiations, his moments of despair. Director and composer Heiner Goebbels abandons traditional drama for a world in which mechanisms, fire and electricity, sounds and melodies tell us their stories in the same way that a human might – thus becoming tools for creating polyphony. The first version of this performance was created in French at the Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne (Switzerland) in 1998. Heiner Goebbels: “I think Max Black is my most ‘electrical’ piece because it is the story of doing research in a laboratory. No matter what experiment he may do, all the sounds accompanying him are recorded live, played back and transformed. In the course of his research he creates his own soundtrack which, in its turn, creates the choreography and rhythm of his movements.”
2020.05.17 04:07 NamNguyen56BACK TO ONE BATTLE OF THE BILD
BACK TO ONE BATTLE OF THE BILD few weeks ago, the editor-in-chief of BILD newspaper of Germany wrote a very harsh letter to Xi Jinping, because the Chinese Embassy in Berlin slandered and threatened him. This afternoon at 14:37, an article of the SIMON SCHÜTZ reporter was again published in this tenacious newspaper. After reading through, I decided to stop other jobs to translate this article into Vietnamese. Germany, a very important partner of Beijing, also spoke strongly. NEW PLAN TO BECOME A WORLD BOSS - CHINA BASED ON THE FIELDS OF EXCEPTION, VERY HIEU BEFORE the experts agree: The diplomatic corps of wolves are fighting for Chinese interests Quoc like a Rambo movie Xi Jinping (66 years old), China's president, wants to take advantage of the opportunity to further expand China's power. The world after the Corona pandemic will no longer be the world we have lived in. Is this a cliche or not, let the fact prove. Perhaps without a doubt, the Corona crisis added to the fierce battle of world powers hegemony. What is certain: China is seeking to create a world after Corona in which China is the most powerful power, leaving the dangerous American. To that end, they use all forms, notably the aggressive tone of their anti-American rhetoric by Chinese politicians and the media. Not only against the US, in general, Chinese embassies around the world behave very aggressively. It is becoming increasingly clearer that false information and shameless lies. All in pursuit of a purpose, realized by geopolitical power of China. "WOLF" " The newest, most noticeable tool in the toolbox of China that has been launched is the" wolf-like "diplomatic strategy. The opinion of expert Thorsten Benner, director of the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin, explains to Bild: The name of the foreign exchange strategy comes from the Chinese action film "Wolf Warrior". The content praises the Chinese special forces army that crushes foreign forces. The current Chinese response is like this: Using wolf warriors on the diplomatic front to fight for Chinese interests like Rambo, using intimidation, propaganda and spreading fake news to replace the usual diplomatic forms. A typical example of a very aggressive wolf diplomacy is Zhao Lijian, deputy head of the propaganda department of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Benner described Lijian as a vicious diplomat, a tireless propagandist of conspiracy theories, for example saying that COVID 19 originated from the US military. Another striking feature is that every one-party state criticism is considered insulting to the Chinese people and motivated to discriminate. They acted like an old colonial-style anti-Western orchestra. It is noteworthy that conspiracy theories have been employed by many Chinese diplomats. Zhao Lijian is not isolated. This clearly shows that this action is directed from above. Zhao Lijian could be the embodiment of future Chinese diplomacy, Benner said. Konstantin Kuhle, 31, an FDP politician, warned: “During the Corona crisis, China sought to polish its credibility and conceal its origin through shameless propaganda. . Germany and EU countries cannot accept that and must show their determination to reject what China wants to influence. ” Certainly the intention of Chinese diplomacy is to create a new sense of confidence. People have sought to advertise their fierce battle against Viruses in the country, and want international recognition of generosity through medical aid. But that plan failed: The world focused on China's sin-finding to have terrible consequences in this crisis. China has not only been criticized for the appearance of the virus, but also particularly criticized for providing early stage information. The concealment has terrible consequences. This pandemic could have been prevented. China itself has been under great economic pressure through very bad indicators in its recent history. They act as if they were victims of the crime of the President of the United States intentionally causing a pandemic. Mr. Benner draws conclusions: It is also possible that China's aggressive reaction to the infamous campaign is a sign of weakness, tension and unbearable feeling of intimidation. CHINA WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THE USA AND EUROPE For a long time, the purpose of China was to separate Europe from the alliance with the US. A well-known Chinese researcher once wrote about Beijing's minimum goal for Mark Leonard, ECFR's director: "If there is a war between the United States and China, we want, at least Europe. play a neutral role. ”- Mr. Benner described China's strategy like that. But European actions are not exemplary and strategic. “Europe has made it so easy for Beijing to realize its intentions, enabling them to buy off our quintessence and make Europe (including Germany) too dependent on the Chinese market. China knows how to turn this dependency into a tool and threaten Germany, such as the 5G network problem, ”said Benner. "Because China has shown its true face, now it is necessary to reconsider the balance depending on the Chinese market," said Benner. Germany and Europe need to work more strongly with other countries such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, and India to counter Beijing's hegemonic ambition in the Indo-Pacific region.

Telegram's blockchain network finally launched today – or, at least, a version of it. TON Labs, a startup that helped Telegram run the test network for the Telegram Open Network (TON), launched its own version of the blockchain Thursday, with the support of professional validators. Called Free TON, the fork comes after the group decided not to wait until Telegram is able clear the regulatory hurdles it faces before it can officially send TON live. The initiative is supported by 13 validators and used code maintained by TON Labs. During a Zoom call livestreamed on YouTube, the genesis block of the new blockchain was generated, effectively marking its existence. "The network must not be censored, it must go to the world," TON Labs CTO Mitya Goroshevsky said on the call. To distinguish itself from the original TON project, this forked version is named Free TON, and its tokens are called "ton crystals," not "grams," as Telegram’s were dubbed. Telegram did not reply to a request for comment on the initiative by press time. Telegram was not involved in the launch, according to Alexander Filatov, CEO of TON Labs. “It’s an independent launch of the open-source software,” he told CoinDesk. TON Labs is providing technical support for the code, while the team of (for now) 13 validators will be supporting the network. The code will be used under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2. The original TON had initially been scheduled to launch in October 2019, but was delayed after the SEC sued the messaging app company for allegedly selling unregistered securities. An injunction to halt the project was granted by a U.S. court in February, making the second launch deadline of April 30 unfeasible.
However, as the code for TON is publicly available on GitHub, it’s technically possible to launch it without Telegram’s participation. “This project has its own community, its own idea, its own ideology. Not launching it would be a mistake,” said Konstantin Lomashuk, head of P2P, a Cayman Islands-based blockchain startup and a Free TON validator. It’s not a mainnet, but it’s not a testnet either, said Sergey Vasilchuk, founder of the Kiev, Ukraine-based EverStake, also a validator. “We’re trying to launch the alpha version, see how this software works in real life,” Vasilchuk said. Like the Kusama network is for Polkadot, Free TON is serving as a proving ground for the tech before it can be launched in full, he explained. “The way we see it is as a testnet that has the real distribution but might – and will possibly be – rolled back to the genesis state at any time if there are vulnerabilities in the code and black hats [malicious hackers] decide to exploit them on the live chain,” said Hendrik Hofstadt, CEO of the Berlin-based staking startup Certus One. Currently, the 15 entities acting as validators include EverStake, P2P, Berlin, Germany-based Certus and other professional validation-as-service startups that are already supporting networks like Cosmos, Loom, EOS and Tezos. There are also three cryptocurrency exchanges in the role, according to a list of validators shared with CoinDesk, including Kiev-based Kuna, London-based CEX and Hong Kong-based HitBTC. They won’t list ton tokens at this point, and will only act as validators, Filatov told CoinDesk. Some of the validators came from the TON Community Foundation (TCF), also supported by TON Labs. The foundation launched its own testnet for TON earlier this spring. However, Filatov said “TCF didn’t become a truly international movement,” and thus didn’t succeed in leading the blockchain launch. However, its members can join the new network, too, he added. "There is absolutely no technical reason now for somebody to join this network (except the common reason for all altcoins – to get some coins)," cryptographer Alexey Pryanishnikov, a TCF member, wrote in a chat while watching the launch livestream. From launch, each validator will receive 380,000 ton crystal tokens to stake and start producing blocks for the proof-of-stake blockchain. There will be a limited supply of 5 billion tokens, as was the plan for the original TON blockchain. Out of those, 85% will be distributed to “Free TON partners and users,” 10% to developers and 5% to validators, a press release says. “We expect the TON network to mature quickly and transition into a mainnet state over time,” Hofstadt said, adding that crypto exchanges will later list ton tokens, so that early participants will ultimately be rewarded. read more Originally published by Anna Baydakova, May 7, 2020 Coindesk
Trump’s Actions That Benefit Russia at America’s Expense
What are the chances that it’s a coincidence that all of these things help Russia and hurt the US? Occam’s Razor suggests that Trump’s intention is to help Russia. To make this list, Trump's actions needed to fulfill two criteria: (1) benefit Russia; and (2) harm America. Feel free to add your own suggestions to help me fill out this list some more. Attempts to ease sanctions
Destroying American belief in democracy, free press, & accountability
Claim that millions of illegals voted
Claims of rampant voter fraud
Claims of fake news
Claims of Deep State
Claims of rampant corruption in democrats (normalizing republican corruption)
Russians’ statements about Trump
“Donald’s right, and I agree with him,” [regarding US troop withdrawal from Syria] said President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, whose influence over Syria can only grow more dominant as the United States exits.
“Trump is God’s gift that keeps on giving,” said Vladimir Frolov, a Russian columnist and foreign affairs analyst. “Trump implements Russia’s negative agenda by default, undermining the U.S.–led world order, U.S. alliances, U.S. credibility as a partner and an ally. All of this on his own. Russia can just relax and watch and root for Trump, which Putin does at every TV appearance.”
“We can tolerate some degree of unpredictability and mercurial policies on the tactical level — it’s worth it,” Mr. Frolov, the Russian foreign affairs analyst, wrote in response to written questions. “In Trump we trust … to do the right thing.”
Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Upper House of the Russian Parliament, has said that “the departure of James Mattis is a positive signal for Russia, since Mattis was far more hawkish on Russia and China than Donald Trump.” Kosachev opined that Trump apparently considered his own agenda in dealing with Russia, China and America’s allies to be "more important than keeping James Mattis at his post," concluding: "That’s an interesting signal, and a more positive one” for Russia.
Semyon Bagdasarov, director of the Moscow-based Center for Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies, appearing on the Russian state TV show “The Evening with Vladimir Soloviev,” described the ultimate outcome of the U.S. withdrawal from Syria as “a total dream come true.” The host, Vladimir Soloviev, chimed in and predicted a massive picnic—“It will be a real celebration, in the best traditions!”
State TV host Olga Skabeeva surmised that Americans are “losers, since Putin has defeated them in every way.” With a theatrical sigh, her co-host, Evgeny Popov, added: “Trump is ours again—what are you going to do?” Every member of the sizeable audience enthusiastically clapped. Russian opinion makers recount the Kremlin’s victories with unmistakable glee. Popov smirked: “It seems to Americans that we won on every front: the U.S. Secretary of Defense has been removed, we unquestionably secured a complete, unconditional victory in Syria. …On top of that, Rusal sanctions have been lifted with Trump’s hands.” Panelists of the show, including Russian lawmakers, couldn’t hide their satisfied grins.
Discussing the planned departure of the U.S. from Syria, state TV host Olga Skabeeva pondered why Trump suddenly decided to leave at this point in time: “Americans say, it’s because he is beholden to Putin. Is that logical? Yes, it is.”
Regarding the most recent Syria pullout:
“Putin won the lottery! Russia’s unexpected triumph in the Middle East,” raved Mikhail Rostovsky in his article for the Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets. “Those who were convinced of Trump’s uselessness for Russia ought to think again...What Washington got out of this strange move is completely unclear. To the contrary, what Moscow gained from this is self-evident...Trump’s mistake in Syria is the unexpected ‘lottery win’ that further strengthened Moscow’s position in the Middle East and undermined America’s prestige as a rational political player and a reliable partner.”
Maksim Yusin, the editor of international politics at the leading Russian business daily Kommersant, was amazed by the ongoing stream of inexplicable actions by the American president that benefit the Kremlin. “All of this benefits the Russian Federation,” Yusin marveled. “You know, I’ve been watching Trump’s behavior lately and get seditious thoughts: maybe he really is a Russian agent? He is laboring so hard to strengthen the international image of Russia in general—and Putin in particular...In this situation, Americans—to their chagrin and our enjoyment—are the only losers in this situation.”
“This is such a pleasure,” grinned Olga Skabeeva, the host of Russia’s state television program 60 Minutes. “Russian soldiers have taken an American base under our complete control, without a fight!” Skabeeva’s co-host Evgeny Popov added: “Suddenly, we have defeated everyone.” Incredulously, Skabeeva pointed out: “This is an American base—and they just ran away! Trump ran away!”
“It’s been a long time since America has been humiliated this way,” gloated political analyst Mikhail Sinelnikov-Orishak, “They ran away in shame! I can’t recall such a scenario since Vietnam.” He added: “For us, this is of great interest, because this is a key region where energy prices are being determined. That is a shining cherry on top.” Political scientist Andrey Nikulin concurred: “This is sad for America. A smaller-scale version of what happened in Vietnam.”
Appearing on the nightly television show The Evening with Vladimir Soloviev, political analyst Evgeny Satanovsky recounted many ways in which Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria and abandon the Kurds has hurt the image and standing of the United States: “America betrayed everyone...Trump also strengthened the anti-American mood in Turkey, when he promised to destroy the Turkish economy.” Satanovsky opined that now any economic problems or currency fluctuations in Turkey can be blamed directly on the United States, prompting textile, tobacco, steel and other industries to turn away from America. “Anti-Americanism in Turkey is off the charts,” Satanovsky pointed out, “American politics are tangled in their own shoelaces... America is successfully self-eliminating from the region.”
Discussing the exchanges between President Trump and President Erdoğan, Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of Russian State Duma Committee for the Commonwealth of Independent States affairs, commented: “I don’t care that those two clowns write such letters to each other. You can only pity them. Is it better for us that the Americans left Syria? Of course it is! Will we make deals with Erdoğan? Of course we will.”
Vice President Mike Pence gave Erdoğan everything the Turkish side has been attempting to achieve, in exchange for a promised five-day pause in the offensive. A Turkish official told Middle East Eye, “We got exactly what we wanted out of the meeting.” At the conclusion of the five-day pause, Erdoğan will be meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi.
Appearing on 60 Minutes, Franz Klintsevich, a member of the Federation Council's Committee on Defense and Security, declared that Russia will take full advantage of America’s withdrawal from the Middle East, becoming a top player in the region. Klintsevich argued that America’s withdrawal from Syria represented Russia’s “global victory” and “demonstrated the absolute superiority of Russia’s arms, diplomacy and foreign policy.”
During the same show, political analyst Mikhail Sinelnikov-Orishak was overcome with gratitude: “I look at Trump and think: ‘May God grant him good health—and another term. This is a great situation for Russia...We can practically sit back and reap the dividends from what others are doing...Meanwhile, Trump is yet to make a single good deal, which is why I wish him good health, may he flourish and get re-elected...Trump is a great candidate. I applaud him...For America, this isn’t a very good president.”
The Kremlin’s propagandists see no acceptable alternative to Trump amongst any viable presidential candidates in the United States. Complaining about prevailing anti-Russian attitudes, Vladimir Soloviev—host of the nightly television show The Evening with Vladimir Soloviev—sarcastically surmised: “So it looks like we’ll have to elect your president—again.”

These employees are armed, have special means and so on. Now let"s imagine that this man is constantly walking the subway, "GAZEL”, how should those people do that? At the hospital, in more calm conditions, the specialists managed to part 3 stabilize the patient"s condition, after which part 3 it was decided to move the patient to Astghik MC anyway. As to why these cases were not disclosed, Satik Seyranyan part 2 expressed the opinion that the authorities encouraged these cases; “Some people are trying to be good, to prove their devotion to a particular Mirror, but after independence every government tries to control the press, but the problem is that our partner, who strongly condemned it, is now the same. part 2 Things are happening under his rule. Do you want to say that Nikol Pashinyan was not aware of taking Yerevan.today computer and interrupting the problem? ” The specialists decided to stop at a nearby hospital to stabilize the patient"s condition and decide what to do next. 2020.04.02 01:55 emppmp31Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Armenia,

According to the Law on Securing Persons Subject to State Protection of the Republic of Armenia, the persons are subject to state protection. The law clearly states part 3 that the prime minister cannot refuse state protection at all, nor can the family members of the prime minister refuse it. There is a provision that members of the Prime Minister"s family may temporarily renounce state protection, but in general, the law clearly states that the Prime Minister and his family members cannot refuse it, ”Pashinyan said. The patient was a 60-year-old man, and his condition was much worse than one could imagine. I hope that it will be revealed and the press will understand that what is happening to one is directed at the whole field and we should part 3 all be alert, ”he said. As Manuk Yazchyan, Head of Ambulance Service of “Astghik” Medical Center, told NEWS.am Medicine reporter, a heart attack was registered near the patient on the way. But continuing on the road was far too risky. The RA NA Speaker underlined that the problems arising on these platforms should be solved by joint efforts, and also noted that they expect the support of the Russian partners in the selection of the candidates nominated by Armenia in several bodies. In November 2009, about 100 gunmen, called Ampattu"s ruling clan supporters in the southern province of Magindanao, cut off a rival clan highway on the highway that was heading to Sharif-Aguak to officially register for next year"s governorship. They wanted to nominate clan leader Esmael “Toto”. part 4 The candidate himself, who received a threatening letter, was not in the ranks, headed by his wife.
